Bio

Ben Hallman is an emerging Christian Indie artist from Asheville, NC.  After hitting rock bottom in the early 90’s he remembered the teachings of his youth and realized it was either die by suicide or turn to Jesus.  Having experienced major depression, alcoholism, loneliness, divorce, and most recently the death of a spouse, Ben relates to the struggles of a wide range of people.  He has and continues to use this empathy to pen songs of enlightenment for friends and family, songs that also speak to the outer fringe.

God’s grace is allowing Ben to overcome the limitations of being a single dad to two young children.  He has recently finished his first album “The Sparrow”, released in December 2008.  The record took almost 3 years to complete, because shortly after going into the studio in March 2006 Ben’s wife Kim was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).  She fought the disease bravely for 1 year before the Lord Jesus took her home to heaven.  Ben finished writing the title track of the record for Kim while staying with her at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Stylistically the album is classified as Contemporary Folk, that is, a mixture of folk, light rock, and country.  By design, the Nashville “wall of sound” is not heard on Ben’s recordings.  Recorded at Mission Recording (www.missionrecording.com) in Asheville, NC, “The Sparrow” breathes dynamically and was intentionally left “real” sounding.  The result:  honest, refreshing, encouraging and uplifting music.
